Sofia sick for the 1st time

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 4:36 am

Sofia got her first case of some flu like virus this past weekend.  We battled with her temperature all weekend and had a fun trip to Children’s Medical Center Saturday evening on advise of our pediatrician.  That was 3 hours that we’ll never get back just to be told that it is probably just a virus she is fighting off and not anything to be overly concerned about.  Sometimes the level of service you get from medical offices just astounds me.  3 hours?!?  Really?  They didn’t look all that busy and keeping Sofia entertained while not feeling good in a couped up exam room was no walk in the park.

Anyway, she is better now and her temperature seems to be back under control so mom and dad are relieved.  Attached are some pictures of Sofia and Dad…

Easter present

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 8:59 pm

For Easter this year Sofia gave Mom and Dad the gift of crawling.  As of the time I write this (a week later), Sofia has become an expert crawler.  Watching and playing with her have evolved into a whole new realm.  Soon safety gates will decorate the hallways!

Enjoy the pictures

No need to state the obvious, you can simple click on the pictures below.  Eating has not become any cleaner but the food has become more of a mess.  For instance take carrots……

Sofia hits 6 months

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 10:12 pm

This past Sunday Sofia turned 6 months old.  That’s half a freaking year.  Angie and I look back on the blur that was her infancy and recognize the changes that are happening right in front of our eyes.  Sofia is becoming very curious about her surroundings and wants to interact with everything she sees.  A current favorite is the crunchy sound the baggy that holds her wipes makes.

At her 6 month check up she weighed in at 17 lbs 1 ounce and is 26.75 inches tall.  She is in the 75% for weight and 80% for height.

Playtime with Mom and Dad before bed

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 7:49 pm

We now have a night time play ritual. We go upstairs into Sofia’s playroom and party before bedtime. By “party” I mean sit around and try to keep Sofia entertained with her toys. She crawls on the them, tries to eat them, crawls on us, makes us laugh, etc… We do this until Sofia enters crabby mode, this is an immediate sign that it is time for a bath and then bedtime. Bedtime is sometimes challenging because the battle to get Sofia’s jammies on can be quite a struggle. By this time she is sometimes loudly verbally protesting. This whole ordeal is a delicate process in which timing is critical. When done just right it is a thing of beauty and Sofia goes to sleep right as her head hits the crib without much fuss. Below are some playtime pics…

Sofia tries solids and gets a visit from Aunt Jamie Mark

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 8:53 pm

This week we braved the unknown and fed Sofia some baby oatmeal cereal.  Overall it went very well besides the incredible mess.  Unfortunately babies don’t automatically know how to eat food so most of it ends up on their cloths, face, hands, high chair, you get the idea.  It was an exciting experience nonetheless.

Aunt Jamie was in town to organize a fashion show at Northpark Mall.  She made time to come visit us all which we all enjoyed.  See pics…..

5 Months Old

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 9:14 pm

Wow!  Sofia turned 5 months last weekend.  Our lives as parents has been turned upside down and now life seems to move at hyper speed.  I remember when there used to be times I’d be sitting around wondering what to do with myself.  Those times are long gone.  Now we have beautiful Sofia in our lives.  We love her more than anything in the world but she demands attention at all times which we dare not deny her.

Grey Sargent came to visit this weekend.  He is 9 months old and already walking.  Check the pics below…

Sofia meets the Halletts

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 9:33 pm

Good friends of the family were in town this weekend and met Sofia for the first time. She was well behaved, smiled, and avoided the dreaded meltdown. Bill and Donna Hallett have known Jeff since he was a baby. Now they know Jeff as a Daddy.

Sofia’s progression on a weekly basis is amazing to watch. It seems like just last week she knowingly grabs for things she wants, can completely hold her self up with her arms when on her stomach, and constantly talks to you or her toy (whichever will listen). She seems sooo big now. Dad and Mom predict crawling within 2~3 months.

Pictures with the Halletts below….

Sofia visits Jake and the Dallas Aquarium

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 10:13 pm

Sofia and parents had a fun filled action packed weekend. Saturday we went to visit the Garcia’s and their son Jake. He is 4 days older than Sofia. He’s a big boy! While moms and babies played inside, Jake and Sofia’s dad grilled outside and managed to incinerate a whole Christmas tree in one of those outdoor ceramic fireplaces. Good times. We were very surprised the Fire department didn’t stop by to pay us a visit. Christmas trees burn fast and makes lots of smoke and sparks.

Sunday brought fun adventures at the Dallas Aquarium with the Depots and their son Dylan. Sofia and Dylan toured the entire aquarium strapped to the chest of his/her dad. There was hardly any crying or complaining, they both seemed to enjoy it. We will be planning more fun outings in the future. It was a nice change of scenery. Check out the pics below…..

Exersaucer and the return of sleep deprivation

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 11:31 pm

Every growing baby needs an exersaucer.  Entertainment for minutes until the over stimulation causes a meltdown.  Sofia really enjoys it in limited amounts of time.

Sofia has learned how to turn over which she has fun performing in her crib at night.  The last couple weeks have been fun 3AM wake up calls when she realized she’s either stuck and doesn’t like the position she’s gotten herself in.  Since Sofia is already up she figures Mommy wouldn’t mind nursing her for 20 minutes.  Good times!!!

Planes, NYC, and a Hotel Stay

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 10:03 pm

This past weekend Sofia and her brave parents took a plane trip to NYC to see her step Uncle Bobby get married. The plane ride was rather brutal as expected. For some reason Sofia did not particularly enjoy the build up and drop in pressure associated with taking off and landing. We were those parents with a screaming baby. Other than that she did okay. Slept a lot on the way there, not so much on the way back. We found changing a diaper on a plane both challenging and exciting. We chose to just do this in our seats as opposed to the claustrophobic bathroom.
Angie’s mother (Nelcy) accompanied us so we could attend the wedding. Having a baby wake up crying in a hotel room at 7AM makes for crabby next door neighbors. Lucky for us, Jason and his girlfriend were in the room next to us. I feel sorry for the people on the other side.
Family who met Sofia for the first time oohh’d and aahh’d over how beautiful she was which we always love to hear! The wedding was wonderful and we congratulate Bobby and Laura Horne on a wedding very well done! We also want to thank Nelcy for coming with us and taking care of Sofia while we attended the wedding. She did a wonderful job with her.

I’ve discovered how to make the pictures below into actual links so you can now click on them and enlarge. ENJOY!

Changes for Sofia & visit from Uncle Jason

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 11:37 pm

Angie and I moved Sofia out of daycare because we weren’t quite prepared for the stress of leaving her with strangers all day that had no real emotional attachment to her.  We did it for a week and couldn’t take much more.  We approached the Fosters (friends that live very nearby).  Janee Foster has agreed to watch Sofia for us during the day.  Angie and I are very happy with this situation as Janee has two girls of her own that Sofia gets to play with.  Sofia seems very happy with the situation also.

This week Uncle Jason met Sofia for the first time.  She warmed right up to him and we think he likes her also.  Jason has been in Japan for the past couple years.  Check out the pics below.

Next week we take Sofia on her first airplane trip to NYC.  We are going to see my stepbrother get married.  While we are looking forward to the trip, there is the fear of having a screaming baby on a 4 hour plane ride.

Hands and Mouth

Filed under: Sofia's Blog — Jeff Gordon @ 10:13 pm

Sofia has made the thrilling discovery of her hands and believes their main purposed is to shove her toys into her mouth.  It is fun to watch!  She is also making many noises ranging from rasberries to high pitched screams of joy.  Our favorite are the sweet coos and ahhhhs that tell us she is happy and content.

Uncle Jason will meet Sofia for the first time this Friday.  We are excited for him to meet her and hope he has prepared himself for changing diapers.  Jason is currently teaching English in Japan among other things.  We hope one day he’ll come back home and hang around for more than a couple months before jetting off to some other part of the world.  As always some favorite recent pictures below.
